Don't sugar-coat, Sanford, Fl. The areas that are "bad" are very bad. There are no changes in a town, that time has avoided as Orlando advances and the market for improvement is still a dream.
Even fifteen years ago, the white folks totally avoided going into certain areas of town. At night, the idea of even being in Sanford downtown, was not even a consideration.
Without jobs and with low grade schools, what kind of chance does any town have in Florida? The state appeases retirees that move-in with pension money and don't "take" from the system.
Now, the new governor is kissing-the-butts of corporate America by offering them bonuses, to move to the land of alligators. Florida is what it is, a hot place in the summer, where body temperatures rise and the "pickins" are slim.
Anytown America has its good points and its bad points. The biggest issues are if by history, we have learned from our mistakes and we make changes or not.
Sanford is a rough town, just like a lot of towns become, when the ability to survive is hard. Some people use excuses and some people make changes.
The crime now is in not listening to all sides and then allowing the court system to make the needed decisions. Mobs don't make changes, they just harbor the hates and foster the continued growth of same.
There will always be an undercurrent of mistrust and hate, till educational opportunities are equal and decent paying jobs exist, which afford taxpayers a good way by which to live.
The line of division still exists and it will till, the changes are locked-in-place.
