Reality is the fact that a bag of potato chips will still fill-up the pangs of hunger, when a person cannot afford the meat, the potatoes and the vegetables.

When, the bills need to be paid, the expense of good balanced meals does not always fit into a limited budget.

Times are as bad as the GREAT Depression and w/o the support that people need from each other.  Living in a rented room, does not always mean, a full-kitchen is available.  Being able to eat what one can, until hopefully the clouds lift, is a limited advantage for a lot of people.

I managed a food pantry for a short-time, many years ago. The donations consisted of bags of raw rice, bags of sugar, flour and can-goods. When, people are hungry they need to be able to prepare the food and have the means by which to do so.

Not all people have full-kitchens, by which to cook. A bag of potato-chips and a box of raisins is fulfilling to a hungry person w/o a kitchen. When, one is walking and looking for work, buying a candy bar with food stamps should not be considered a crime-against-society. What kind of a country is this becoming, when the hammer slides down constantly as people are struggling to survive.

Sure eating the sugars, etc are not the most nutritious choices, but how can Americans become so hard on each other, instead of putting-out a hand....and helping a person to get back into the stream of surviving?
