The government pushed for solar panel usage and windmills for homes in the mid 1970's, during the gas crises. The idea took hold as architects started incorporating ideas for moving that sun heated water into the house and recycling through the floors. Then, the push on solar died.

Tiime has been wasted in promoting alternative sources for heating and lighting. The oil companies pushed for higher usage and now they slap back at the idea of keeping prices down.
