How Did Your Mother Die? The Nursing Home Killed Her.

Wed Jan 25, 2012 3:09 AM EST
of, the, over, health, elderly, care, and, our, again, as, heads, sick, looms
By SuckerFish

I will always feel that will be my answer, when asked on a medical form as to the history of the parent's question about "what caused their death, if they are dead"?  " What did your Father die of"?  "Cancer".  "What did your Mother die of"? "Well, it was supposed to be with a diagnosis of lung cancer".  "But, the nursing home along with the help of hospice managed to speed-up her death by 10 months or so".  Guess that kind of treatment falls into "end-of-life" choices to be made for others!

I had more information then most people bother to gather, as my parent was carried towards the end of her life on a fast moving train going downhill. With a goal of wanting to do the very best for her, the system had another agenda, that apparantly they follow w/o exception.

Ignore the needs of the patient as much as is possible. Put the family members in a box and seal it up. Collect funds from donations and insurance payments and move onto the next day and another bed to be filled-up.

We may claim to be an advanced society at last, compared to the heathens of the past. But, that is not true when we look behind the doors and still see the suffering of the aged, the ill and the disabled. We are not advanced in our care of others, as we ignore the obivios and try to find ways to dismiss the annoyance of tedious care for the needs of so many.

Money is the motivator and it is difficult to see compassion.
