Miami Seafood supplier got too greedy with the dollars pouring in, life was good. The market crashing with Wall Street hurt the restaurant business & the suppliers started chopping off body parts from employees.
The same old story in a different mode, but it all comes down to the top-enders making the most money and wanting to keep that income for themselves, no matter who they eliminate at the "bottom" to do so.
Corporations will stop paying the street-reps who have to pay for their own gas and supplies before walking in the door to see a customer. Corporations cut back on salaries and put those reps on commission only. Not a way to survive.
Some restaurants and clubs pay the chefs enough money to be called "mister" and get a special parking space near the door. Clubs and high-end hotels feel the need to hire "food managers" and again pay them a salary that would normally cover the wages of six workers.
There is no "spread of the wealth" in a country that is suffering from such economic losses. The managers and the bosses will never feel the pinch as do the workers with families to support on so-so wages.
Unless, the share goes down the line, the system will become more socialist in order to help the masses of starving people on the streets. Either voluntarily open up those pocket-books and wallets or wait till the crowd gets hot.
